This program is designed to connect best to grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 curriculum.

New for 2022! When you register for any of our AITC-M programs for the first time, you will first need to create your new teacher profile. Then you will log in to your new profile to register for the program. Save your username and password to register for future AITC-M programs. Teachers, if you registered for Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month in March 2022, you have already created your teacher profile, username and password.

Topics & Event Dates (2022-23)

Event 1: Follow the Canola FarmerWill Bergmann standing in a field of canola

Join us and Will Bergmann, from Bergmann Bros., out on his farm just south of Winnipeg, only a few minutes from the heart of the city. Students will learn all about canola including the seeds, planting, crop care, and harvest. 

Nita Sharda, a registered Winnipeg-based dietician, will also share about the nutritional benefits of canola oil and how we can use canola products in our everyday lives. 

Then extend the learning in your classroom by having students discover the properties and characteristics of canola oil while making their own salad dressing.

Event 2: Follow the Wheat Farmer Jason Rempel and family standing in a wheat field

Join us on Jason Rempel’s farm, Rempel Co. Acres., just east of New Bothwell, Manitoba. Students will learn all about wheat including planting, crop care, harvest and the nutrition wheat provides. Students will also learn about the combine harvester and all the simple machines that work together in the combine to separate the wheat grains from the plant!

Event 3: Follow the Beef FarmerAndre Steppler and family on their cattle farm

We are taking students out to Miami, Manitoba to Andre Steppler’s farm! Students will learn about beef production and how Andre cares for the environment and his animals so that he can provide safe, healthy, nutritious meat for us.

Then extend the learning in your classroom by having students complete our activity booklet built around what they learned in the farm tour video with fun crossword, word search, true and false questions and more!
